[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Good morning, it’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth, on one side. And brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Its Musicians week, and today we’ve got some true or false for you. We’ll say something, and you have to decide if it’s true

[DING]

>> RACHEL: or false.

[BUZZER]

>> RACHEL: Here’s your first one:

Music is always written down on paper.

So is that true? Is music always written down on paper?

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> RACHEL:  The answer is...false!

[BUZZER]

>> RACHEL:  Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL:  -and keep brushing.

Lots of musicians use sheet music to learn how to play a song. Remember, sheet music is music that has been written down. But there are lots of musicians that learn music by ear. That means that they hear a song, and figure out how to play it just by listening!

>> KID: WOW.

>> RACHEL: Another thing musicians do is IMPROVISE. When musicians improvise, they just make up the music on the spot to create something totally new.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: and brush in little circles around each tooth.

[MUSIC ENDS]

>> RACHEL:  Here’s your next true or false.

Musicians can only play one instrument.

So is that true or false. Can musicians only play ONE instrument?

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> RACHEL:  The answer is… false!

[BUZZER]

>> RACHEL:  Lots of musicians play more than one instrument! Famous musicians like Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and Prince can all play more than one instrument!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth,

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL:  and give your tongue a brush too.

[MUSIC ENDS]

>> RACHEL:  Many musicians are famous for playing a particular instrument. For example, Stevie Wonder is famous for being an excellent piano player.

[PIANO SOLO]

>> RACHEL:  But Stevie can also sing and play the harmonica...

[HARMONICA]

>> RACHEL: - keyboards...

[KEYBOARD]

>> RACHEL: -drums...

[DRUMS]

>> RACHEL:  -organ…

[ORGAN]

>> RACHEL: -and bongos!

[BONGOS]

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL:  That’s it for Chompers today but come back tonight for more masterful musicians. Until then,

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Chompers is a production of Gimlet Media.
