>> Rachel: It’s Communication Week on Chompers, and we’re playing another round of-

[What’s That Sound Theme]

>> Rachel: We’ll play a sound that a tool for communication makes, and you have to guess what it is!

Ready for your first one?

[FAX MACHINE]

>> Rachel: Hmmm, let’s hear that again…

[FAX MACHINE]

>> Rachel: So, what’s that sound?

>> GROUP: : A fax machine!

>> Rachel: A fax machine.

Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush.

A FAX machine is a tool to send documents, or things written on paper, from one location to another. They work in a similar way to telephones, but send things you can SEE and read, instead of things you can HEAR! When fax machines were first invented, they made written and visual communication a LOT faster, but they’ve since mostly been replaced by email.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and spit if you need to.

Ready for your next sound?

>> Rachel: Hmm, let’s hear that one again.

[DIAL UP INTERNET]

>> Rachel: So, what’s that sound?

>> GROUP: The Internet!

>> Rachel: The Internet!

>> KID: Huh?

>> Rachel: Well, that’s what the internet USED to sound like. I’ll explain after you switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing.

Back when the internet first became available, it was connected to your phone line. You would “dial up” the internet to go to a webpage or check your email!  (WHAAT)  And if people tried to call you on the phone while you were using it for the internet, they’d hear this! [BUSY SIGNAL] That sound means you’re busy. And they wouldn’t be able to talk to you until you hung up! Got off the internet.

That’s all the time we have for Chompers today, but make sure to dial up for more Chomper’s tomorrow. For now, it’s time to-

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!!
