[THEME BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Good morning, it’s time for Chompers! Your twice daily toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth. Pick a side, and brush in little circles around each tooth.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1, brush!

[THEME ENDS]

>> RACHEL: It’s Senses Week, and today we’re playing I Spy. I’ll describe what I spy, and you guess what it is!

Here’s your first one:

[DRIPPING, CAVERNOUS SOUNDS]

>> RACHEL: I’m inside a mouth. It’s humid in here and there is some food being chewed.

[CHEWING]

>> RACHEL: It’s kind of gross. I see many many small bumps on the tongue in this mouth. Inside of those bumps are tiny, tiny, tiny little hairs.

[XYLOPHONE TRILL]

>> RACHEL: They’re sending messages to the brain.

[COMPUTER BEEPS]

>> RACHEL: What do I spy?

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: Find out after you switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, but don’t brush too hard.

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: So, what do I spy?

>> GROUP: TASTE BUDS!

>> RACHEL: Taste Buds. Humans have THOUSANDS of taste buds! These thousands of buds are what give us the sense of taste. Their job is to sense different types of tastes, like sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and savory. Once taste buds catch a taste, they send it as a message to your brain.

>> KIDS: YUM! YUCKY.

>> RACHEL: Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and give your tongue a brush too.

[MUSIC ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Here’s your next I Spy:

[GOOEY CAVERNOUS SOUNDS]

>> RACHEL: Ohh, It’s kind of dark in here. And what’s this on the walls …. Oh it’s sorta WAXY! Oh, wait. I’m inside of an ear! I see a very thin piece of skin. It’s stretched super tight, just like a drum. And it’s vibrating like crazy.

[SPRINGY BOING]

>> RACHEL: What do I spy?

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> GROUP: AN EARDRUM

>> RACHEL: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush the molars in the back too.

Most humans have two eardrums, one in each ear. And these give you the sense of hearing. You HEAR sound … when a sound wave travels through the air, into your ear, arrives at your eardrum...

[SLIDE WHISTLE]

>> RACHEL: -and then gets turned into a message by your brain.

[COMPUTER BEEPS]

>> RACHEL: The message is what you hear.

[MUSIC ENDS]

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: You hear that beat? That's means that’s it for Chompers this morning, but come back tonight for more senses. Until then…

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit.

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Chompers is a production of Gimlet Media.
