[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Welcome back, it’s time for more Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush all the way to the molars in the back.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: It’s Musicians week, and tonight we've got more I Spies to get you guessing. I'll describe something, and you have to guess what it is.

Here’s your first one:

[FUNKY BEATS BEGIN]

>> RACHEL: I see a musician that is really getting the party started. But she’s not playing an instrument like a piano or guitar, she’s making music with a TURNTABLE.

[RECORD SCRATCH]

>> RACHEL: She’s mixing songs together, and getting the people at the party to DANCE!

Who is this musician? Who do I Spy?

FInd out after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush the molars in the way back too.

That musician is?

>> GROUP: A DJ!

>> RACHEL: A DJ!

A DJ is someone who plays songs on the radio or at parties. They decide what songs to play, and how one song goes into another. Lots of DJs use what's called a TURNTABLE. A turntable uses records, these big flat discs with music on them. You can move the records on the turntable to make a scratching sound-

[RECORD SCRATCH]

>> RACHEL: A DJ who does that is called a turntablist because she uses a TURNTABLE!

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and give your tongue a brush too.

Here’s your next I Spy:

[CITY SOUNDS AND GUITAR]

>> RACHEL: I see someone playing the guitar, but they’re not on stage or singing into a microphone. This person is on a busy street corner. They have their guitar case open on the ground in front of them, and as people walk past and listen to them play, they might drop in some money…

[COINS]

>> RACHEL: -as a way of saying “Good Job!”.

So who is this person? What do I Spy?

>> GROUP: A Busker!

>> RACHEL: A Busker!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -but don’t brush too hard.

[CITY SOUNDS END]

>> RACHEL: A busker is a type of musician who plays music in a public place … and maybe gets a dollar or some change for their performance from the people around them!

[COINS]

>> RACHEL: Buskers are great because they bring music to the streets of a city.  You might see buskers at a street fair, or if you live in a big city, on the subway.

[SUBWAY DOORS]

>> RACHEL: If you enjoy a busker’s music, ask your grown up if they have some money for you to share with them!

[MUSIC ENDS]

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: That’s it for Chompers today, but come back tomorrow for more clean teeth. But don’t forget to-

>> KIDS: 3-2-1 Spit!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Chompers is a production of Gimlet Media.
