>> Rachel: Welcome back. It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show. Its Sounds week, and tonight Jasmine is here with a special interview. Jasmine let’s go!

>> Jasmine: Thanks! start brushing on one side of the top of your mouth, and make sure to reach the molars in the way back.

>>Kids: 3, 2, 1, brush!

>> Jasmine: Its Sounds Week. And tonight we're back with our friend Marcus who helps make the music that you hear on chompers. Hi Marcus.

>> Marcus: Hi Jasmine.

>> Jasmine: So Marcus what's the difference between sounds and music.

>> Marcus: So say if I were to clap right. (CLAP) So that's just a sound. But if I clap in what's called the rhythm (clapping in rhythm) then it's music.

>> Jasmine:  Oh so music is just sounds that are put together in a certain way.

>> Marcus:  Exactly.

>> Jasmine: So any sound can be music?

>> Marcus:  Any sound.

>> Jasmine: Then let’s go out to RECORD some sounds to make music. Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth and don’t brush too hard. So we're out here on the streets of New York City and we're going to find some sounds to make some music out of, right Marcus?

>> Marcus: Yeah we're looking for everyday sounds to make music with.

>> Jasmine: What bout what about this fence. What if you hit it with a stick maybe.

>> Marcus: Oh yeah.

(HITTING FENCE)

>> Marcus: That sounds really cool.  Let's use that.

>> Jasmine: I think a lot of the sounds that we're going to find in our sound adventure or are going to be sort of drum. Rhythms sounds that we can then kind of put together and create like kind of a beat. You can wiggle your butt to. Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and make sure you’re brushing, the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

>> Marcus: Ok, So I'm going to take this rock and drop it on the ground. It's kind of a big rock from the sidewalk. I'm going to drop it on the ground and kind of see what kind of sound that makes.

(Dropping rock)

>> Marcus: Let’s use that!

>> Jasmine: Marcus why don't you bang this mailbox. (MAIL BOX SOUND)

(Banging mailbox)

>> Marcus: Oh that sounds pretty cool. That might also be some kind of drum.

>> Jasmine:  OK. So let's go down into the subway now and see what kind of sounds we can find down here.

(WALKING DOWNSTAIRS)

>> Jasmine: Oh look there are people going through the turnstiles.

(TURNSTILE BEEP)

>> Marcus: Oh I like that beep sounds. I think that might be kind of a cool piece for our melody.

>> Jasmine: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing. So Marcus, you took all the sounds we recorded out on the street and you’ve put them together.

>> Marcus: Yeah I used all these cool sounds we recorded to make a new version of the Chompers music.

>> Jasmine: Cool let’s hear it.

>> Marcus: So the first thing I did was create a drum sound. So this first sound is the rock I dropped. And Jasmine this is the sound of you hitting a trash can with a stick. And this part is the melody of the song, and that’s the sound of me hitting a fence with a stick...so we hit a lot of things with sticks.

(Music theme)

>> Jasmine: OK that’s it for today. A big thank you to Marcus for making this super cool new song!

>> Marcus: Sure...  And don’t forget to

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
