[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> Rachel: Good morning, it’s time for Chompers, your twice daily toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth. Pick a side, and brush in little circles all the way around each tooth.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> Rachel: It’s History Week. And today we’re exploring the history of North America.

So let’s jump into our pretend time machine:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: I’ve landed hundreds of years back in time, on an island in what’s called the carribean ocean. I see a man getting off of is ship. He’s sailed all the way from Europe. But the man seems to think he’s arrived to a country called India. But dude, India in the opposite direction!!!

Time machine, who is this guy?

Find out after you Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and brush the molars in the back too.

So who’s this man?

>> TIME MACHINE: CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS.

>> Rachel: Columbus was an Italian explorer who really wanted to reach India! And when he arrived to one of the Caribbean islands, he believed he had found the west coast of India. So he called the islands the West Indies. He also called the people who were living there the Indians. It was all a big mistake but still, for decades and decades, people from Europe kept calling the people from North America, Indians.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and brush the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.

Here’s your next travel back in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: I’ve landed farther back in time -  Columbus hasn’t even born yet. I’m not on an island anymore, I’m somewhere in North America. People are making clothes, building buildings, farming food, hunting, traveling, trading things with each other … you know, just doing all the stuff that people do!

Time machine - Who are these people?

>> TIME MACHINE:  NATIVE AMERICANS.

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -but don’t brush too hard.

Native Americans were the first people to live in North America.  And they've lived there for a long long long time. Native Americans were there before Europeans like Vikings, Columbus, or the British arrived and set up homes. And that was before Canada, the US and Mexico even existed!  And they’re still there today!

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
