[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> Rachel: Welcome back, it's time for more Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show!

Let’s get brushing! Start on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush all the way back to the molars.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> Rachel: It’s History Week. And tonight we’re exploring historic events that took place in... SPACE!

Here’s your first travel back in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: Whoa I'm in space! I see a silver ball - kinda like a beach ball but with 4 antennas. It’s rising and heading farther up into space. It’s sending a radio signal to Earth!

Time machine What is this?

>> TIME MACHINE: SPUTNIK 1!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -but don't brush too hard.

Sputnik 1 was the first spacecraft to travel around the earth. It was made and launched in space by the country of Russia - at a time when the country was called the Soviet Union. Sputnik means “travelling companion” in Russian. The success of Sputnik I’s mission made people in the US jealous. They wanted to explore space too.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and keep brushing!

Here’s your next travel back in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: I’ve landed about 10 years after Sputnik 1 was launched. I’m still in space. I see a man stepping onto the surface of the moon. And he’s saying something into his radio mic:

>> SPACE MAN: That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.

>> Rachel: Time machine, Who is this man?

>> TIME MACHINE: Neil Armstrong!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and brush the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.

Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first man to walk on the moon!

The United States built a spaceship called  Apollo 11 and sent it into space with astronauts The entire world watched the launch of Apollo 11 on television. And the Apollo Mission changed how we humans see the Earth and ourselves! It changed human history.
