>> Rachel: Its nature week on Chompers, and tonight we’ve got the answer to the quiz from this morning.
Our question was: How OLD is the world’s OLDEST tree?
Is it:
1000 years old?
5000 years old?
Or 8000 years old?
Ready for the answer? Give me a drumroll by stomping your feet!
The answer is .... FIVE THOUSAND YEARS OLD.
Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.
The oldest tree on Earth is a bristlecone pine tree that lives in the mountains in California, and it’s OVER five thousand years old!
California is also home to the world’s TALLEST trees. HYPERION is a redwood tree and it’s the TALLEST tree in the world, measuring almost 400 feet! That’s taller than the Statue of Liberty!
But no matter how old, or tall a tree is, all trees start out as a tiny seed.
Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush too.
So how do we know how old a tree is? Many trees have RINGS that we can count. Next time you see a tree stump, see if you can count the rings. Each year a tree grows, it adds a ring! So, If you were a tree, how many rings would YOU have? Hold up your fingers for how many rings you would have.
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and don’t forget the molars in the way back.
If we want to make sure that trees stay healthy and happy, we have to do our part to help the environment. ONE WAY TO START IS by conserving water. Conserving water means not wasting water, and only what we need. A great way to start is by not leaving the water running when you’re brushing your teeth!
Great job brushing, you're all done for today. Come back tomorrow and until then make sure to
