[THEME SONG BEGINS]
>>RACHEL: Welcome back to Chompers! Your morning and night tooth brushing show.
It’s Everybody Week, and tonight we have an answer to this morning’s quiz!
But first ...
Start brushing on the top of your mouth, and brush the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.
>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!
[THEME SONG ENDS]
>>RACHEL: Our quiz question today is:
Which of these things makes a building more ACCESSIBLE?
Is it:
A ramp?
[SLIDE WHISTLE]
>>RACHEL: Handrails?
[METAL HIT SOUND]
>>RACHEL: Or elevators?
[ELEVATOR DOOR’S DING]
>>RACHEL: Ready for the answer? Drumroll please….
[DRUMROLL]
>>RACHEL: And the answer is… ALL OF THEM!
>>KIDS: HIP HIP HOORAY!
[MUSIC BEGINS]
Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…
[SWITCH BELL]
>>RACHEL: -and give your tongue a brush too.
All of these things make a building more accessible, because they all make a building easier for people with disabilities to get around in.
A ramp is one way for people to go UP...
[MARIMBA ASCENDING]
>>RACHEL: -and DOWN.
[MARIMBA DESCENDING]
>>RACHEL: without using stairs. Stairs go STRAIGHT up,
[STAIRS STEPS]
>>RACHEL: -which can be difficult for people who have trouble walking. A ramp goes up gently and you can walk up it on crutches, or roll up it in a wheelchair or scooter.
Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth…
[SWITCH BELL]
>>RACHEL: -and brush your front teeth too.
Handrails are sideways bars, or RAILS, that give you something for your HAND to grab onto. They’re usually on the stairs but sometimes in the bathroom near the sink or toilet.
[TOILET FLUSHING]
>>RACHEL: They make things easier for people who have trouble walking, but can also help people who can’t see well know where they are going.
Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…
[SWITCH BELL]
>>RACHEL: -and don’t forget the molars in the way back.
Elevators make a building accessible, too! Not everyone can take the stairs. An elevator takes you from one floor of a building to another. It’s like stepping into a room that goes up and down to other floors in the building.
[ELEVATOR SOUNDS]
>>RACHEL: Plus, there’s lots of cool shiny buttons to press! But, please don’t press them all at once.
[BUTTON PRESSING SOUNDS]
>>RACHEL: Oh, ugh I said “don’t”. Oh no! Oh well.
[MUSIC ENDS]
[THEME SONG STARTS]
>>RACHEL: That’s all the time we have for today, but come back tomorrow for more clean teeth.
Until then,
>> KIDS: 3-2-1 Spit!
