>>RACHEL: Welcome back. It's time for Chompers! your morning and night tooth brushing show. Tonight our friend Jasmine is here with a special interview. Jasmine, let's go.

>>JASMINE: Thanks! Tonight I’m back with Evan, a kindergarten teacher at the Randolph School. But first, Start brushing at the top of your mouth. On one side and make sure to get the molars all the way in the back.

>>KIDS: 3, 2 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>>JASMINE: Um, So some of my friends at home have questions about their first day of school I'm wondering if you could help?

>>EVAN: Yes of course I'd love to.

>>JASMINE: Kieran asked will he be able to play at school.

>>EVAN: That's a great question. I know that all schools look different and that the way kids can play it might be different at different schools. But all teachers know that playing is a really important for kids and in fact playing is one of the  ways that we learn. So yes Kieran can rest assured that he will be able to play in different ways at his school.

>>JASMINE: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and don't brush too hard. Um, so Dorothea wants to know why are some teachers strict or why do they have a lot of rules?

>>EVAN: I know what you mean some teachers do feel like they have a lot of rules. But I'll tell you all schools and all teachers do have rules. Rules are very important and they're always for the same reason. If there are rules it's about safety. So a teacher's job is to teach you things but a teacher's job is also to keep you safe. And any time a teacher is telling you there's a rule whether you understand why or not is something about keeping you safe.

>>JASMINE: Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and make sure you're brushing the inside outside and chewing side of each tooth. So Brantley, Eric, and Lorelai just moved to a new town. They want to know how to make new friends at their new schools.

>>EVAN: Well one of the most important ways is just to go to school and meet people and say hello and tell them your name. If you're having a hard time talking to someone you might try to notice something that they're doing or you can see something on their shirt their lunchbox and talk to them about that. Or you might want to invite them to play with you. You can just say Would you like to play with me? Or maybe you could ask that if you see them playing, You could ask them. Can I play with you?

>>JASMINE: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and give your tongue a brush to. Olivia asked how she can keep from being nervous at school.

>>EVAN: Some of the things that you can do to help yourself are taking some deep breaths. Sometimes even when you feel so nervous trying to start a game is a way that you just get yourself playing a little bit and then you forget that you're nervous. And you also need to know that grown ups that are there. Their job is to help you. So if you're feeling really nervous that is an important time to tell a teacher how you're feeling.
