[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> Rachel: Welcome back! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 Brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> Rachel: It’s History Week. And tonight we’re continuing to explore the history of Asia with our pretend time machine!

Time to go!

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: I’ve landed in India! At a time when India was controlled by British people. So not that long ago. I see an Indian man wearing a white robe and walking with a wooden stick. He’s leading thousands of Indian people towards the sea.

So time machine, who is this person?

TIME MACHINE: Mahatma Gandhi!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -but don’t brush too hard.

Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian leader who thought that people of all religions should have the same rights and that the Indian people should control their own country. Once he led his people on a march to the sea.

[OCEAN SOUNDS]

>> Rachel: -as a peaceful way to show to the world they were against the control of the British people.

Mahatma Gandhi is still known today as one of the greatest leaders. In India, they call him Bapu, which means father.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel:  -and brush in little circles around each tooth.

Ok, let’s get back in our time machine!

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

I’ve landed in Japan! I’m in the middle of a battle.

[SWORD SOUNDS]

Phew! That was a close one!  Watch out, people, don’t you see me?! Oh look one of the fighters -- a samurai -- is a woman on a horse. She looks very brave!

Quick, time machine- who do I spy?

>>TIME MACHINE: Tomoe Gozen.

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and don’t forget the molars in the back.

Tomoe Gozen was a famous samurai. Samurai were warriors, but not many of them were women. Samurai had to learn the same skills as soldiers and had to be brave and honest. Samurai controlled and protected Japan for hundreds of years.  There are no more samurai today, but Japanese people still praise their bravery and fighting spirit.
