>> Rachel: Good evening. It’s time for Chompers! Your morning and night toothbrushing show.

It’s Poetry Week, and you’re going to help us write poems again!

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: Tonight we’re going to be writing LOVE poems together! Have you ever heard a poem that begins with, “Roses are red, Violets are blue?  Writing a poem that goes this way is super popular on Valentines Day … and people have been doing it for a really really long time. Here’s a version that someone wrote more than 300 years ago!

The rose is red, the violet's blue,

The honey's sweet, and so are you.

Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush in little circles around each tooth.

In these poems, the last word always rhymes with blue. So today, listen to the whole poem, and pay attention to this sound (SFX) -- It’ll tell you where the rhyming word goes.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

I love my cow

My cow goes ____(SFX)

Ok so … BLUE -- what’s the rhyming word? Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing … and now tell us the rhyming word!

>> Group: MOO!

>> Rachel: That’s right! Moo! Here’s the whole thing again:

Roses are red

Violets are blue (SFX)

I love my cow

My cow goes MOO.

Ok next poem!

Roses are red

Violets are blue

My puppy is great

But he chewed on my ____(SFX)

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

Ok so blue … it’s about a puppy who chewed on something … what’s the rhyming word?

>> Group: SHOE.

>> Rachel: Here’s the whole poem again!

Roses are red

Violets are blue (SFX)

My puppy is great

But he chewed on my shoe!

Now that you know how to rhyme, time to start writing some love poems of your own!  That’s it for Chompers tonight, make sure you
