>> Rachel: Welcome back! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show!

Remember, its GROSS WEEK on Chompers and tonight we have the answer for you from our quiz.

Got your toothbrush ready? OK! Start with the teeth on the top of your mouth. Pick a side, and make circles with your brush.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1, BRUSH!

So remember our gross quiz from this morning?

Which animal eats its own poop? (SFX YUCK!)

Is it:

Snakes (SFX HISS/RATTLE)

Rabbits (SFX SPROING) OR

Pigeons? (SFX COO)

Here are those options again, one more time:

Snakes (SFX HISS/RATTLE)

Rabbits (SFX SPROING)

Or

Pigeons (SFX COO)

Ok, ready to make your guess?

Before you make your guess, switch your brushing to the OTHER side of the top of your mouth, and make sure you’re brushing the outside, inside, and the chewing side of each tooth.

The answer is ….

(SFX DRUMROLL) RABBITS

Yeah, that’s right, cute and cuddly little bunny rabbits EAT THEIR OWN POOP. (SFX YUCK!)

There’s even a SUUUUUUUUUPER long word for animals eating their own poop.  Are you ready for it?

Coprophagia (kop-ruh-fey-jee-uh).

One more time. COPROPHAGIA.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth and make sure you’re brushing all the waaaaaaay back to reach all of your teeth.

So, Coprophagia (kop-ruh-fey-jee-uh)! Is when animals eat their own poop!

Animals like hamsters (SFX SQUEAK), baby elephants (SFX ELEPHANT), and even gorillas (SFX GORILLA)

When an animal eats its own poop, it’s because there are still nutrients in the poop that are healthy for it.

Nutrients are part of what makes animals and people grow strong from their food!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth. But make sure you’re not brushing too hard!

Bunnies have a special kind of poop that only comes out at night called cecotropes

That night time poop has all kinds of nutrients in them that the bunny needs to stay healthy. So if you catch your bunny eating its night poops, don't worry, it’s totally normal -- even healthy! (SFX YUCK!)

But it’s still kind of gross

Alright, you’re all done for the day. (SFX YAWN) You've done something healthy by brushing your teeth. Come back tomorrow for another day of GROSS WEEK on Chompers!

-- but until then –
