>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush

>> Rachel: It’s Inventors Week, and tonight we’ve got more true or false for you. I'll say something, and you give us a thumbs up if it’s true (SFX TRUE) or thumbs down if it’s false (SFX FALSE)

Here’s your first one:

George Washington Carver is the inventor of Peanut Butter

So is that true, or false? Did George Washington Carver invent peanut butter?

Find out after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush the molars in the back too

The answer is… FALSE (SFX FALSE)

George Washington Carver did NOT invent peanut butter, but he IS known for discovering a lot of ways to use peanuts. Soaps, plastics, paints, dyes and medicines are just a few of the TONS of things he made using peanuts. He became so famous for making things out of peanuts, people called him the “Peanut Man.”

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and don’t brush too hard

Here’s your next true or false.

Velcro was invented by a dog

So is that true or false? Was velcro invented by a dog?

The answer is… TRUE (SFX TRUE)...kind of! (SFX BARK BARK)

Velcro is a kind of material that we use to make things stick (SFX VELCRO). You might have seen it on those shoes that don't have shoe laces, and that use velcro instead. So how did a dog help invent it?

I'll tell you after you switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

Velcro was invented by a man named George de Mestral. George came up with the idea when he was out hiking with his dog, and noticed that little seeds called BURRS kept sticking to his dog’s fur. When he looked at the burrs up close, he noticed that they had tiny tiny hooks that perfectly grabbed onto fur. He used that idea to create velcro, which uses tiny hooks and loops, just like the burrs that stuck to George’s dog (SFX BARK)

That's it for Chompers today, but come back tomorrow for more inventors. Until then,

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
