>> Rachel: Good morning! It’s time for Chompers, you twice daily toothbrushing show!

Start brushing on the top of your mouth, and brush in little circles around each tooth

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1, brush!

>> Rachel: It’s Money Week! And today we’re playing a game of I SPY. That means I’ll describe something and you have to guess what it is!

Here’s your first one:

SFX DIEGETIC MUZAK

I’m in a room where some grownups are waiting in line.  One by one, they go up to a person at a high counter.  (SFX NEXT PLEASE!) They give the person behind the counter a piece of paper, and then that person gives them some money! (SFX CACHING)

Where am I? What do I spy?

Find out after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth but don’t brush too hard.

So … what do I spy?

>> GROUP: A BANK!

>> Rachel: A bank is a place that keeps your money safe for you.  The person who works behind the counter at the bank is called a teller. and they help you do the things you need to do at the bank. You can go to the bank to get money, or to put money in your savings. account.

SAVINGS is when you put money aside and don’t spend it … so you can use it later when you need it!

People keep their money in banks so that they don’t lose it!

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

Here’s another I Spy:

Some of the grownups who walk into the bank don’t go stand in the line.  They use a machine right by the entrance.. They slip a little plastic card into the machine, punch a bunch of buttons (SFX BOOP BOOP BOOP) and then money comes out of the machine!

So … what do I spy?

>> GROUP: AN ATM!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and don’t forget the molars in the back.

A-T-M stands for “automated teller machine.”

Automated basically means “something a computer does.”

A “teller” is the person who works behind the counter at the bank.

And you know what a machine is!

So put it all together and you get … a machine that gives you money! Of course, an ATM won’t give you money whenever you want. It’s doing the same job a teller does:  It checks the bank’s computer to see how much money is in your savings. And if you’re not asking for more money than you have in your savings, then machine will give it to you!

That’s it for Chompers today, but we’ll be back tomorrow -- you can BANK on it! Until then,

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
