>> Rachel: This week on Chompers we’re talking about the delicious world of food!

Today we’re talking about FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, and figuring out what the DIFFERENCE is, between the two!

Apples are a really popular fruit, (CHOMP SFX).

and Apples float in water (SFX BLOOP) because they have a lot of air inside of them, (SFX BALLOON PUMPING)

But once an apple goes bad, and gets rotten inside, all of the air starts slipping out. (SFX AIR LEAK)

Time to keep brushing, but switch to the other side of the top of your teeth!

Want to know if your apple has gone bad? Put it in a tub of water! If it sinks to the bottom that means its rotten because its lost its air! (SFX BLUB BLUB BLUB).

Air is a type of GAS -- and onions are full of it (SFX FART). Seriously! Onions are so stinky because of the gas inside of them.  When you cut an onion, the gas is released and it bothers your eyes, and it makes you cry.

Ok, let’s move on to the bottom of your mouth! Pick a side and make those brush circles over each tooth!

So far we’ve talked about a vegetable -- onions, and a fruit -- apples.

What do you think a pumpkin is?

SFX HMM

It’s a FRUIT.

That’s because pumpkins have seeds, and only FRUIT has seeds. Not veggies! (SFX OHHH!)

So if you find a seed in something you’re eating -- you’re eating a FRUIT!

Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and corn -- they’re all fruits.

Last part of your mouth! Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth and make sure to get alllllll the way back to those far teeth!

Now that you know a little more about fruits and vegetables, it’s time for today’s challenge!

Today your challenge is: Try a vegetable you’ve never eaten before, or ask a grown-up to tell you about a vegetable you’ve never eaten before.  Maybe you’ll discover your next favorite food!

And come back to Chompers tonight, to find out how you can EAT A RAINBOW! And don’t forget to

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
