[WHATS THAT SOUND THEME]

>> RACHEL: This morning we’ll play part of a song, and you have to tell us what GENRE of music it’s in. A genre is like a category, or a style of music that has a similar sound.

Here’s you first song:

[POP JAM BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Can you tell me what Genre of music this is? I’ll give you the answer, but first,

Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush all the way around each tooth.

The answer is:

>> GROUP: KPOP!

>> RACHEL: KPOP!

Kpop is a genre of music that became really popular recently. It comes from Korea, a country in Asia, and its often sung in Korean, the language they speak there. But the fun, dancey beats and catchy melodies make it a hugely popular genre across the world. KPOP is often performed by groups of singers, who all dance together to their own music.

Keep the beat alive while you switch to the bottom of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and give your tongue a brush, too.

Here’s your next song:

[CORRIDO SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Can you name this genre of music? What is this style of music called?

This genre is:

>> GROUP: Corrido

>> RACHEL: Corrido!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

-and don't brush too hard.

>> RACHEL: Corrido is a style of music that was started in Mexico almost a hundred years ago! People in Mexico used to use Corridos to tell stories to each other, and pass along messages before telephones were in every house! Some popular corrido musicians are Chalino Sanchez and Valentin Elizalde.
