[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: It’s Cooking Week on Chompers, so get your toothbrush ready and start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and make sure you’re brushing the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

>> KIDS: 3,2,1 brush!

[THEME SONG]

>> RACHEL: Today we’ve got some cool culinary riddles about things you’ll find in the kitchen! Here’s your first one:

I’ll show you the amount

Whether a quart or a cup

Just gather the ingredients

And you can fill me up.

What am I?

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> KID: A measuring cup!

>> RACHEL: A measuring cup!

[LIQUID POURING]

>> RACHEL: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush the molars in the back, too.

When you’re cooking from a recipe, you need to make sure you’re putting the right amount of ingredients in your dish. You don’t want to end up with mac ‘n’ cheese that’s all mac and no cheese! That’s where a measuring cup comes in. It has a bunch of lines on it that show you different amounts of stuff, so when you fill it up with ingredients...

[SHAKER]

>> RACHEL: -you see how much you are adding.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush in little circles around each tooth.

Here’s your next riddle:

If you want a hot meal,

Just open my door.

I’ll warm it up good,

Cause that’s what I’m for.

What am I?

[MUSIC BEGINS]

>> KID: An oven!

>> RACHEL: An oven! Whether you’re baking bread, making cookies, or roasting beef, you’ll probably need an oven to get your food warm and toasty.

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush your front teeth.

A lot of ovens today work with gas or electricity, but there are also a lot of other ways to make an oven. Traditional pizza ovens are made out of bricks and heated by burning wood.

[BURNING SOUNDS]

>> RACHEL: Or you can make an oven by digging a big hole in the ground and heating it up. When it comes to cooking, humans are pretty good at coming up with creative ways to turn food into warm meals.
