>> Rachel: Good morning! it’s time for Chompers! Your morning and night toothbrushing show

Start brushing on the top of your mouth, and make little circles with your brush around each tooth

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: It’s Cities Week, and today we’re playing: WHAT’S THAT SOUND!

Today all of our sounds come from SUBWAYS -- those are the trains that take a lot of people around a city. Here’s your first one:

[Mind the gap]

>> Rachel: What was that? Here it is one more time:

[Mind the gap]

>> Rachel: So what’s that sound? Shout it out.

>> Kids: A subway announcement!

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush all the way to the back.

You might have heard the phrase “mind the gap” if you’ve ever taken the subway. Mind the gap is used to warn people to be careful of the gap between the train door and the subway platform. The gap is usually not big enough to fall in it but you don’t want to get your foot stuck!

“Mind the gap” was first used on the London subway and it has now spread into subways all over the world.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

OK, here’s your next sound:

[Tokyo’s Ebisu Station Jingle]

>> Rachel: What was that? Here it is one more time:

[Tokyo’s Ebisu Station Jingle]

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, but don’t brush too hard.

So what’s that sound? Shout it out!

>> Kids: A departure melody!

>> Rachel: A departure melody tells when you when a train is about to leave a station.  In Tokyo, a city in the country of Japan, some stations have their own little song to tell when a train is leaving or arriving.

This sound:

[Tokyo’s Ebisu Station Jingle]

Is from the Ebisu station in Tokyo. And like many of these departure melodies, it’s inspired by an old song.

You’re all done brushing for today. Come back tonight for more What's That Sound. Until then

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
