Today our friend Jasmine is here with a special interview. Jasmine, take it away.

>>JASMINE: Thanks!

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>>JASMINE: It’s Earth Week. So we went to talk to someone who takes care of planet earth.

>>BREN SMITH: My name is Bren Smith and I'm an ocean farmer.

>>JASMINE: And what’s an ocean farmer?

>>BREN SMITH: Yeah it's kind of weird right. This idea of farming the ocean I, if you’ve ever gone out and visited your local farm and you just seen fields of lettuce tomatoes corn, that's what I do. But I do it under water.

>>JASMINE: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back.

[Switch Bell]

>>JASMINE: Could you describe what an ocean farm is like?

>>BREN SMITH: So imagine if you donk your head underwater and you saw this underwater garden and what that would be is there are these anchors on the bottom of the ocean floor. And then there are ropes up to the surface and those are all connected to buoys, things that float. And from those ropes we grow our kelp and mussels or scallops and then down on the sea floor will grow oysters in cages and then clams down in the mud.

>>JASMINE: Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing.

[Switch Bell]

>>JASMINE: Have you always been an ocean farmer?

>>BREN SMITH: I grew up as a fisherman and I fish for lobster and tuna, cod all over the globe. But there are only so many fish in the sea and if we catch too many of them in the sea then there won't be any any left.

>>JASMINE: So you wanted to help save the fish?

>>BREN SMITH: Exactly. So my role as a fisherman was to stop catching fish and to start farming and farming things that are helping the ocean heal.

>>JASMINE: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush those front teeth too.

[Switch Bell]

>>BREN SMITH: So you go to my farm and you'll see seals swimming around you'll see bluefish you'll see ducks on the surface. And they eat and they hide and they play you know on our farm so we create homes for everything that lives under the ocean.

>>JASMINE: And it makes food.

>>BREN SMITH: Yeah. We farm things that could feed ducks and feed fish while also feeding humans.

>>JASMINE: You’re all done brushing for this morning. Don’t forget to come back tonight to learn more about ocean farming! Until then…

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1, spit!
