Let’s get you brushing!  Start on the top of your mouth, pick one side to focus on, and brush in small circles all around each tooth.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1, BRUSH! (SFX YUCK)

>> Rachel: It’s GROSS WEEK on Chompers and we’re talking about the ickiest, the stickiest, and the nastiest stuff. Today, that stuff is BACTERIA (SFX SPLAT).

First of all, what exactly is Bacteria??

Bacteria are tiny, tiny, tiny creatures that live everywhere all around us. In the oceans (SFX OCEAN) inside volcanoes (SFX ERUPTION) and even inside of your body (SFX HUHHH?)

Keep brushing, but switch to the other side of the top of your teeth.

Bacteria can do all sorts of great things. The bacteria in your stomach help you digest your food (SFX stomach growling) so that it can become energy for your body.

Bacteria helps turn milk into yogurt and cheese (SFX MOO).

And bacteria in dirt helps provide nutrients for plants, so they can grow big and strong.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth and pick a side to brush on, and make sure to brush your front teeth too

Some bacteria are really helpful! But not all bacteria are good

Some bacteria can make us sick. (SFX SNEEZE)

Bacteria that can make you sick is called a “pathogen.”  Pathogens can give you a fever (NOSE BLOW), make you cough (SFX COUGH) or even make you BARF! (SFX BARF).

In fact, one of the reasons you’re brushing your teeth right now is because tooth brushing helps fight the bad bacteria!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and make sure you’re reaching all the way to your back teeth

Now that you know more about bacteria I’ve got another quiz for you to think about during the day.  What do these three FOODS have in common?

Pickles … soy sauce … and olives.

What do they all have in common?

Pickles...soy sauce...and olives.

We’ll give you the answer tonight when you come back tonight for MORE Chompers.

But until then….

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1 SPIT!
