>> Rachel: Welcome back, it’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and don’t brush too hard

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: It's GROSSER week, and tonight we’ve got an answer to the quiz (SFX QUIZ) from this morning. The question was:

How much SALIVA does the average person’s mouth make in one day? Is it:

25 ounces, or enough to fill a large water bottle (SFX SPLASH)

48 ounces, or enough to fill a pitcher  (SFX BLENDER)

Or 128 ounces, about enough to fill a gallon of milk (SFX MOO)

Ready for the answer?

First, switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, give me a drumroll by swishing your SALIVA! (SFX SWISH SWISH) The Answer is…..

25 ounces, enough to fill up a large water bottle (SFX YUCK)  That may not seem like a lot, but over the course of your whole life, you will make enough saliva to fill up TWO SWIMMING POOLS (SFX SPLASH). Thats a lot of spit!

We’ll tell you what it is after you switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and brush all the way to the molars in the back.

We told you this morning about some of the cool things spit does for you body, but what we didn’t tell you is that spit also has a super-power.

>> Kid: What?!

>> Rachel: Spit’s superpower is… super healing! (SFX Magic) You know how in some comic books and movies, superheroes get hurt, but then get better, or heal, super fast? Well your saliva is kind of like that. It helps your body heal itself faster!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and give your front teeth a brush too.

Saliva can also be a sign that someone is lying! When something stressful happens, your body will make less saliva to save energy. (SFx beams) Lots of people get stressed out when they’re not telling the whole truth, so if they have a dry mouth, it might mean they’re telling a lie.

That’s it for Chompers tonight, but come back tomorrow for more gross facts

Until then...
