>> Rachel: Good morning! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.
It’s Mythical Creatures week! What’s a mythical creature? It’s a creature that doesn’t exist in real life -- but does exist in your imagination! Like a dragon or a unicorn.
Pick a side on the top of your mouth, and start brushing in small circles all the way around each tooth.
>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 Brush!
>> Rachel: Mythical Creatures are imaginary animals or people from made-up stories, just like in fairy tales. These made-up stories are called MYTHS.
MYTHS helped people explain the world around them, like the weather. A long long time ago in the country of Norway, people didn’t understand what the sound of THUNDER was. So they made up a myth -- that thunder was the SOUND of a giant wooden wagon that belonged to a very powerful creature.
Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and make sure to reach the molars all the way in the back.
Myths come from all over the world. For example, countries like China, India AND France all have stories about dragons.
Today we still talk a lot about myths from the country of GREECE. These stories from “Greek Mythology” are about make-believe gods, heroes, monsters and magical creatures.
Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth. Pick a side, but make sure to brush your front teeth too!
One kind of mythical creature is called - a HYBRID creature. Hybrid means MIX, so hybrid creatures are a MIX of different animals, that come together to make an all NEW IMAGINARY animal!
One hybrid creature you might have heard of before is the mermaid. Mermaids are a MIX of humans and fish!
Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, but don’t brush too hard.
Ok, so that’s the STORY with myths … and mythical creatures! Tonight we’ll have a quiz for you about one special mythical creature.
It’s a HYBRID creature -- just like a mermaid -- and it comes from GREEK mythology.
The mythical creature we’re talking about is … a HIPPOCAMPUS.
>> KIDS: HUH?
>> Rachel: A HIPPOCAMPUS.
But … to hear the quiz you’ll have to tune in tonight.
So until then…
