[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Good morning! It’s time for Chompers, your twice daily toothbrushing show.

It’s Science week, and today we’ve got some I SPIES for you. So listen close, and make your best guess ... or HYPOTHESIS

But first:

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush the molars in the way back too.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Today our I SPIES take us to a SCIENTIST’S LABORATORY.

So Here’s your first one:

Here in the lab I see steam rising from a bubbling liquid…

[BUBBLING SOUNDS]

>> RACHEL: The liquid is in a glass container that looks like a normal cup … but then I see that glass has little marks on the side, to tell you how much liquid is inside of it.

What do I Spy? What’s your hypothesis?

>> GROUP: A Beaker!

>> RACHEL: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.

That glass cup is called a Beaker. Beakers are the glass containers that scientists use when studying or doing experiments.

Beakers have have markings on the side so you can measure how much liquid is in them.

[POURING SOUNDS]

>> RACHEL: Scientists need to be able to measure the ingredients for their experiment, and a beaker helps them do that!

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and give your tongue a brush too.

Here’s your next I Spy:

Here in the scientist’s laboratory, I see the scientist is doing an experiment, and heating up one of the liquids in the beaker. Its sitting on what looks like a little stove that is making a flame, heating the beaker from underneath.

What is it I Spy? What’s your hypothesis?

>> GROUP: A Bunsen Burner!

>> RACHEL: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush your front teeth too.

The little stove is called A Bunsen Burner.

Bunsen Burners are used in science labs to create a controlled small fire.

[GAS TURNS ON]

A fire needs fuel -- like gas -- to burn … so a Bunsen burner has a little knob that controls how much gas is given to the fire.

[GAS TURNS OFF]

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: That’s it for Chompers today, but come back tonight for more science I Spies. Until then…

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: Chompers is a production of Gimlet Media.
