It’s Communication Week, and we are back tonight to communicate the answer to our quiz!

[QUIZ FX]

>> Rachel: Our question was; which of these is NOT a form of communication?

Is it:

Talking (Blah Blah Blah)

A high five (slap?)

Or brain waves? (Sci-fi Wave)

Ready for the answer?

[Drum Roll]

>> Rachel: The answer is, brain waves! (Sci-fi waves) But if you COULD communicate with “brain waves” … it would be called TELEPATHY.

>> KIDS: HUH?

>> Rachel: I’ll explain after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

Telepathy means communicating with someone using just the power of our brains! And it only exists in stories and make believe.  But lots of people have wondered what it would be like if we COULD see what other people were thinking, so they came up with a word for it -- telepathy.

Telepathy is not a REAL form of communication, so let’s learn about some that you CAN use.

Talking is a form of VERBAL communication -- That means SPEAKING, or communicating with WORDS.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and spit if you need to.

A high five is a type of VISUAL communication. (SFX SLAP). That means communicating in ways that we SEE but don’t HEAR. In the United States, a high five is a way of saying “Nice Job!” nonverbally. Another type of visual communication is body language -- like shrugging your shoulders as a way to communicate “I don’t know” without using words.

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing!

And then there’s WRITTEN communication. (Scribble) We use it whenever we write things down, or when we read a book, or a note from a friend. Sometimes we even use symbols to communicate. Like the emoji’s on your grown ups phone! We can use a smiley face to COMMUNICATE that we’re happy without using words. (Laughter)

That’s all the VERBAL communication I have for you today, but come back tomorrow for more clean teeth!

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!!

>> Rachel: And parents, if you want the WRITTEN communication of ANY episode of Chompers, you can go to our website at gimletmedia.com/chompers.
