[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> RACHEL: Hey! What time is it?

>> JASMINE: Time for...you to get a watch?

[RIMSHOT]

>> RACHEL: NO! It’s time for Chompers! Your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush the molars in the way back too.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>> RACHEL: It’s Science week,Tonight we’re going back to the scientists lab for more I-spies.

Here’s your first one:

I see a bunch of things scientists wear to stay safe: Big rubber gloves, a long white lab coat and something that looks like glasses...

Except these glasses are made of thick plastic, and have straps that go around your head.

What do I spy? What’s your hypothesis?

>> GROUP: GOGGLES!

>> RACHEL: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush in little circles around each tooth.

Goggles are safety equipment that scientists WEAR when doing experiments. Goggles keep your eyes safe in case anything spills or splashes!

Here’s your next I Spy:

Now I see the scientist using something long and skinny to measure the TEMPERATURE of a liquid. There’s a red line inside, and it looks like that red line is getting longer the hotter it gets

What do I spy? What’s your hypothesis?

Find out after you switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and keep brushing.

The answer is, a thermometer!

Has your grown up ever taken your temperature with a thermometer? Thermometers are used to measure how hot...

[SIZZLE]

>> RACHEL: -or cold...

[TEETH CHATTER]

>> RACHEL: -something is. How hot or cold something is also called temperature.

We use thermometers at home to measure the temperature of our bodies, to make sure we don’t have a fever, but  scientists also use them in the lab!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and brush your front teeth too.

Scientists use thermometers to measure things like the temperature of a liquid in an experiment. Just like with beakers and bunsen burners, thermometers are a tool scientists use to make sure they are controlling every part of their experiment.
