Where to Listen

>> Rachel: Good morning, it’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth, but don’t brush too hard

>> Rachel: It’s Folktales Week. Remember, a folktale is a story that may or may not be true, that people have been telling each other for a long long time!  Today’s story is a Wabanaki story.

The Wabanaki are a group of people who live in states like Maine in the United States, and provinces like New Brunswick in Canada.

But the Wabanaki lived in those places a LONG time before they were called the United States or Canada … that’s why the Wabanaki are called “first nations” -- because they were here first!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.

Ok here’s our story!

There was once a very powerful man named Glooscap

Glooscap could do ANYTHING!

Glooscap had defeated powerful ice giants with magical powers. (SFX)

Glooscap had defeated very clever witches. (SFX)

Glooscap had defeated a very wicked night spirit. (SFX)

And that’s not even counting other fiends and goblins and bad guys. (SFX)

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

All of Glooscap’s victories had made him very … let’s say confident.

Glooscap loved to boast and brag.

He would tell anyone who would listen about his accomplishments!

He’d say ...

“I’ve defeated so many giants and witches and spirits and goblins and fiends and bad guys .. NOTHING can beat me!”

Or he’d say …

“I’m so bored! There’s nothing left for me to defeat!”

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing!

One day as Glooscap was bragging to an old woman, she gave him a skeptical look -- she didn’t believe his bragging.

She said:

“Glooscap are you SURE you can defeat anyone?  Because I know of someone who is still undefeated.  And I’m not so sure you can beat him.”

Glooscap couldn’t believe his ears.

“Who is this mighty competitor that you think can defeat me!” he hollered.

Find out tonight on Chompers … but until then …
