>> Rachel: Welcome back! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, but don’t brush too hard.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: It’s Bugs week! And tonight we’ve got the answer to the quiz

(SFX QUIZ)

>> Rachel: -from this morning.

Which of these BUGS do people EAT?

Is it:

ANTS

CRICKETS

(SFX CHEEP CHEEP)

>> Rachel: Or Beetles?

Ready for the answer? Give me a drumroll by stomping your feet.

(SFX DRUMROLL)

>> Rachel: The answer is…

ALL OF THEM!

(SFX TADA)

>> Rachel: Can you BEE-leive it?!

(SFX RIMSHOT)

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth and give your tongue a brush too.

(Switch Bell)

>> Rachel: People all over the world eat insects as a part of a healthy diet.

(SFX CHOMP CHOMP)

>> Rachel: Bugs like ants, crickets, beetles, butterflies, grasshoppers, moths and even worms are used as food. And for a good reason too! Bugs can be really good for your body! Insects like grasshoppers are full of nutrients, like protein!

(SFX YUM)

>> Rachel: Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back.

(Switch Bell)

>> Rachel: Eating bugs is good for the  PLANET too!

When farmers raise a lot of the OTHER animals we eat - like pigs and cows - the animals release a gas called METHANE in their farts.

(SFX FART SOUND)

>> Rachel: Methane is called a greenhouse gas, which means it’s bad for the planet. And bugs don’t really fart, so they’re good for the planet and good for you!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush all the way around each tooth.

(Switch Bell)

>> Rachel: You should always check with a grown up before you eat something, but if you DO want to try eating bugs, there are lots of places where you can try them. In Mexico, grasshoppers called chapulines are eaten in tasty tostadas. And in New Orleans, Louisiana you can eat Chocolate Chirp cookies, with tasty crickets for extra crunch!

(SFX CHOMP)

>> Rachel: Man, time really FLIES

(SFX FLY)

>> Rachel: -when you're having fun.

That’s it for Chompers tonight, rinse before you…

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit.
