>> Rachel: Hey there!  it's time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and don't brush too hard.

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: It’s Grosser Week on chompers, and today we’ve got some totally gross I Spies for you. I'll describe something, and you have to guess what it is.

Here’s your first one:

I am in the woods at night, and I hear an animal calling out (SFX OWL) It has two giant eyes, brown feathers, and giant claws. It’s looking for a tasty mouse to eat for dinner.

What is this this? What do I spy?

>> GROUP: AN OWL

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth and keep on brushing.

So what’s so gross about an owl? OWL PELLETS, See when owls eat their food, they don’t cut it into smaller pieces or chew it like humans do. So when an owl eats a mouse, it swallows the whole thing, including all its bones and fur. The owl’s body puts all those bones and fur together in a special body part, called a GIZZARD. And then the owl barfs that stuff up (SFX BARF). And that barf is called an owl pellet.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

Here’s your next I Spy…

I’m on a farm, and I see lots of cows happily chewing on grass (SFX MOO), and tall plants full of fruits and vegetables ready to be picked. (SFX SNIFF SNIFF)  But PEE EWW what is that smell?? Oh I see, there’s brown stuff on the ground around all the plants. It looks like dirt, but its WAY stinkier!

What is this stuff?

>> GROUP: MANURE.

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth and brush the molars in the back too.

MANURE can help plants grow. See plants need food, and the food, or nutrients, for plants comes from the dirt that they grow in.

Sometimes the dirt can lose some of its natural nutrients, and it needs a little help. That’s why farmers sometimes add manure to the ground. But the reason manure smells so bad is because one of the things in it is … POOP! (SFX FART) The poop from cows and pigs can have lots of useful nutrients in it, so we use that poop to help grow things!

That’s it for Chompers tonight, but come back tomorrow for more grossness! Until then,

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1  spit!
