Where to Listen

>>Rachel: Hey! We’re glad you’re back! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Start with the teeth on the top of your mouth. Pick a side, and make circles with your brush.

>> Kids: 3 , 2,  1 - BRUSH! (SFX MARIMBA)

>>Rachel: It’s Music Week on Chompers and tonight we find out the answer to this morning’s quiz!  (SFX)

Which of these instruments can hit the HIGHEST note?

Is it

A: A Cello (SFX CELLO)

B: A Piccolo (SFX PICCOLO)

Or C: A Trumpet (SFX TRUMPET)

Ready for the answer? Give me a drumroll by stomping your feet! Drumroll please! (SFX DRUMROLL)

The answer is: The Piccolo! (SFX KIDS WOW) The piccolo can hit the highest note!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush your tongue! (SFX SWITCH BELL)

Because the word piccolo also means small, Piccolo is used to name small versions of other instruments: Like a piccolo clarinet (SFX) and the violino piccolo -- that is, a small violin! (SFX)

If you have a younger sibling, you could say they are a piccolo YOU! (SFX Rimshot)

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, pick a side, and make sure you’re reaching all the way in the back of your mouth.

The piccolo is a small instrument, but it really packs a punch. Piccolos mostly play with an orchestra -- that is, playing all together with lots of other instruments (SFX Orchestra

But occasionally they get a solo -- when they play all by themselves! (SFX FAMOUS PICCOLO SOLO).

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, (SFX) and brush the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.

An orchestra is a group of musicians all playing together -- sometimes more than a hundred of them! And every instrument that was an option on quiz -- Cello (SFX CELLO), Trumpet (SFX TRUMPET), and of course Piccolo (SFX PICCOLO), is represented in an orches tra. (Orchestra SFX)

That’s all for Chompers today! Come back tomorrow for more interesting instruments and mysterious melodies, until then, make sure to rinse and

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
