The question was:
How many languages are there in the world?
More than 60
More than 600
More than 6000
Ready for the answer? First, switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…
>>Rachel: and give me a drumroll by stomping your feet.. (SFX DRUMROLL)
The answer is…. MORE THAN 6000! (SFX KID WOW)
That's right! English, Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Czech, Icelandic, Korean, Farsi are just a few of the THOUSANDS of languages people all over the world speak! And lots of people can speak more than one language! If you can speak two languages, it’s called being BI-LINGUAL.
Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back too
If you can speak a lot of different languages, that’s called being MULTI-lingual. People who can speak more than one language sometimes learn it from the grown ups at home, and some people learn new languages at school. Sometimes, people learn new languages when they move to a new country. Like, if you moved to France, you might want to learn French, the language that most people speak there. (SFX BONJOUR) Thats how you say hello in french!
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush too.
It’s never too late to learn a new language, but scientists think that the best time to learn a new language is when you’re a kid. (SFX YES!)That’s because kid brains are great at learning lots of new things, like the stuff you learn at school. If you have a friend who speaks another language, ask them to teach you some new words! Then you can be Multi-lingual too!
That's it for chompers tonight, and but come back tomorrow when we will learn a little french! Until then...
>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
