>> Rachel: Good morning, it’s time for Chompers! Your morning and night toothbrushing show. Start brushing on the top of your mouth. Pick a side, and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.
>> Kids: 3, 2, 1 brush!
>> Rachel: It’s Folktales Week! Remember, a folktale is a story that may or may not be true, that people have been telling each other for a long long time! Today’s story comes from Jamaica. Jamaica is a warm country -- on an island, in the middle of a sea, with palm trees and beaches.
The story we’re going to hear is about COMMON SENSE.
What’s common sense? It’s when you just know what you should and shouldn’t do. Like, when the stove is hot, don’t touch it! That’s just common sense! Or, when you’re cold, put on a sweater! That’s just common sense!
Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush too
Our story is about Anansi. Anansi is a spider (SFX SPIDER) and he’s a little bit of a trickster! He’s very very clever but … you know how it is. If someone has a little of something, sometimes they want more! And that’s how Anansi was with common sense. He had some … but he wanted it all!
Anansi figured if he could collect all of the common sense in the world, he would be the smartest spider around! (SFX SPIDER)
Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush in little circles around each tooth
And Anansi thought if he was the smartest guy around, he could get whatever he wanted. He wanted money (SFX Magic coin) and power! (SFX SELF RIGHTEOUS CACKLE)
And he thought that if he had all the common sense in the world then everyone would have to ask for his help. And he would charge them a LOTS OF MONEY for his answers! (SFX CHA CHING)
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush those molars in the back too.
So Anansi set out on his 8 legs (SFX SPIDER) to gather up all of the common sense.
Anansi snuck around, and when he found a little bit of common sense -- like, if it’s cold outside, put on a sweater-- he’d put it in his pot.
SFX CLINK CLINK CLINK
>> Rachel: Finally one day Anancy was satisfied -- he had all of the common sense in the world!
But then something occurred to him -- what if someone came along and took his pot of common sense! His plan would be ruined! He needed a NEW plan!
