>> Rachel: Welcome back to Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show!

It’s transportation week (SFX CHOO CHOO) and today we’ve been talking about water transportation! (SFX JETSKI)

But before we set sail, start on the top of your mouth on one side, and make sure to brush the front, the back and the chewing side of each tooth.

Ready?

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: This morning we asked you to keep an eye out for anything that floats! (SFX bloop)

Floating just means that an object will sit on top of the water and not sink to the bottom (SFX pop pop pop)

Things like tennis balls (SFX WHACK) surf boards (SFX DUDE!) and boats all float!

Using boats to get around on water is pretty important since there’s WAY more ocean than land covering the earth.

Switch to the other side of your mouth, and don’t brush too hard!

So to get from place to place, before airplanes were invented, people would travel the world on the sea.  (SFX WATER) Early explorers used canoes, and SAIL BOATS.

SAIL BOATS are big boats that use sails -- or giant pieces of cloth, to catch the wind and move the ship through the water (SFX WIND).

The first sail boat to sail all the way around the world took more than THREE YEARS.  Now you could make that trip in an airplane in just TWO DAYS!

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and keep making those brushing circles on every tooth!

Boats come in all shapes and sizes, and there are a whole bunch of special words sailors use when talking about a boat or a ship.

The body of a boat is called a HULL. The hull is the part that you think of when you picture a boat. On a sailboat, it’s the big wooden part that floats on the water, and that people walk on and can live inside.   The hull of a boat is usually hollow - that means that it’s filled with air. (SFX AIR)

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and make sure to brush your front teeth

There are also different parts of the hull.

The front of a hull is called the BOW and the back of the hull is called the STERN!

So every boat -- from a tiny kayak (SFX SQUEAK) to a giant cruise ship (SFX CRUISE SHIP HORN), has a BOW in the front, and a STERN in the back.

Ahoy matey! You’ve done a great job brushing today! Make sure to come back tomorrow because tomorrow we’re going to have some TRANSPORTATION SONGS to sing!

Until then, make sure to

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
