>>Rachel: Welcome back! It’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

SFX

>>Rachel: It’s music week on Chompers, and tonight we’re playing I SPY! Here we go!

(SFX)

I’m in a big hall, with high ceilings.  People are standing facing a stage, looking excited!  A musician steps up to a microphone (SFX FEEDBACK), wearing an instrument. Everyone claps and cheers. (SFX) The instrument has a long neck, and it looks like it has a tail! Oh no, that’s just a cord! This instrument has six strings, and when you strum it, it sounds like this v (SFX STRUM GUITAR)

What instrument do I spy? Shout it out!

(PAUSE)

>> KIDS: A guitar!!

>>Rachel: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth (SFX), and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.

The guitar is one of the most popular instruments around the world.

Guitars are used in all kinds of music. Acoustic guitars are used in the Spanish Flamenco (SFX FLAMENCO). Electric guitars are used a lot in rock music (SFX ROCK). And steel guitar is used in traditional Hawaiian music! (SFX)

>>Rachel: Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and don’t forget those front teeth.

Here’s your next I-Spy.

This band really rocks! I see the drummer going bang bang bang on the drums (SFX), and the bassist strumming the bass  (SFX). On the side, I see one musician playing an instrument with black and white keys. But this isn’t a full piano, instead its long and flat, and it’s plugged into the wall!

What instrument do I spy?? Shout it out!

(PAUSE)

>> KIDS: An electric keyboard!

>>Rachel: An ELECTRIC KEYBOARD!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, but don’t brush too hard (SFX).

Keyboards were invented to try and make the sound of a piano, but without having to lug a heavy piano around (SFX ANVIL THUNK). Many keyboards are also synthesizers, which means the keys create electronic signals to make sound.

A synthesizer can sound like a piano, in addition to LOTS of other sounds. They can even sound like animals!

Great job brushing! You’re all ready for bed with a clean smile. Come back tomorrow morning for more marvelous music facts, and make sure to rinse before you

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
