>>RACHEL: Good morning, it's time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.

Its Interviews Week, and today we have an interview where our friend Jasmine went to talk to... a Farmer.

Jasmine take it away.

>>JASMINE: Thanks! Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and make sure to get the molars in the back

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

[THEME SONG ENDS]

>>MELANIE: My name is Melanie McTavish and I am a farmer in Northern California.

>>JASMINE: Melanie works on her farm with her husband Kyle.

>>MELANIE: and we grow vegetables strawberries and flowers.

>>JASMINE: Can you describe your farm for us?

>>MELANIE: So our farm is centered around one big barn and that is where we store all our tools and equipment. And on one side of the barn is where we grow all our vegetables

>>JASMINE: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and don’t brush too hard

>>MELANIE: Where we grow vegetables and then on the other side of the barn where we grow flowers and fruit. So we have our strawberries and flowers and also a caterpillar tunnel, where we start our baby seeds.

>>JASMINE: Oh, that’s like the big plastic tunnels that keeps baby plants safe right?

>>MELANIE:  Yes they keep them protected from wind or cold temperatures. So that they're happy and healthy!

>>JASMINE: Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and make sure you’re brushing the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth. So letting these baby plants grow outside of the caterpillar tunnel is like taking the training wheels off your bike.

>>MELANIE: Totally.

>>JASMINE: And how do you know when they're ready to go out into the world and be big grownup plants?

>>MELANIE: Well it's good to make sure they have at least two sets of leaves for every baby and that's usually a good sign that they're strong enough to survive outside of the caterpillar tunnel.

>>JASMINE: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>>JASMINE: -and give your tongue a brush too. What's the first thing you do when you wake up?

>>MELANIE: The first thing I do when I wake up is walk around the farm and that way we can just check in on all of our plants, see how they're doing. If anything needs attention or to be weeded we'll kind of keep a list of what needs to be done for the day. And that's where we'd like to start.

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>>JASMINE: You’re all done brushing for this morning. Now you take brushing off of your to do list! And don’t forget to come back tonight for more farming questions! Until then…

>>KIDS: 3, 2, 1, spit!
